THE MIJAS COSTA REGION IS CENTRAL TO MANY BEAUTIFUL CITIES AND
ATTRACTIONS
Siteo de Calahonda is an
established, exclusive “urbanization” development of low-rise apartments
and villas in the Mijas Costa region of the Costa del Sol, located on
the Andalucian coast.
Calahonda and Mijas Costa can be easily accessed from many airports in Andalucia and the Costa del Sol, the nearest of which
is Malaga which is less than a 30 minute drive away.
Calahonda and Riviera
del Sol are ideally situated between lively Fuengirola and exclusive
Marbella. (Calahonda won an award for “Best Spanish Development
2000-2001” at a ceremony in London run by Jaguar International) they are
both friendly family orientated resorts with numerous family bars and
restaurants, local beaches, good shopping centres and public transport
links.
The urbanization extends
gently from the coast, rising to 300 metres (984 feet) above sea level
through undulating hills and providing fantastic views of the
surrounding countryside. The Atlas Mountains and African coastline
are often clearly visible.
A rural flavour and
coastal lifestyle are two of Calahonda's most attractive features,
because its founder was keen on green areas, large housing plots and
limits on apartment buildings.
Whilst the vast majority
of Calahonda's 600 hectares are devoted to villas, townhouses and golf
courses, selected areas are dedicated to providing residents with
restaurants, cafeterias and pubs, banks, several
supermarkets and a wide variety of other businesses. These include
hardware, furniture, garden supply, travel agencies, property management
and car hire firms.
Two chemists and three
medical centres (the latter offering a 24-hour service) provide for
health care needs. Additionally, the state-funded Hospital Costa del
Sol is well known as the coast's state-of-the-art medical facility and
is just a few minutes from Calahonda.
There’s also a local
neighbourhood watch scheme, which employs a security company whose
officers patrol Calahonda’s streets 24 hours a day.
DRIVING ON THE COSTA DEL SOL - TWO
MAIN HIGHWAYS SERVE THE AREA
The A7
motorway currently extends westwards beyond
Gibraltar and runs inland between 5 and 15 kilometres from the coast
and;
The
N340 AUTOVIA is mostly dual carriageway and follows the
Andalucian coastline from Malaga westwards to La Līnea (the Spanish town
providing road access into Gibraltar). Both these highways are main
arterial roads that can be used to reach Cadiz and Seville.
If you decide not to use
a hire car to get around, a frequent bus service operates from Malaga
that serves all the resorts along the coast. Alternatively, you can use
one of the many taxi firms that operate in the area.
Please see below and on the pages of
SIGHTSEEING & ATTRACTIONS further
information which may help you to have an enjoyable holiday either in
Calahonda/Riviera/Nerja or anywhere else on the Costa del Sol.
