BENALMADENA (15 min by
car)
On
the coast, Benalmadena Costa offers some of the finest beaches and its
marina’s architectural design has won internationally recognised
awards. Cosmopolitan shopping and many International restaurants and
cafes make it a pleasure to wander round and boat trips are available to
whisk you out to the blue Mediterranean beyond.
The port is very modern and stylish on Sundays and in the summer it is
packed (the place to be)!

Visit (Ex. Eldorado BBC filming) with its glorious sandy
beach, large yachts and popular quality restaurants.

FUENGIROLA
(10 min by car)
Major shopping town which is superbly equipped for
families. Visit ‘Fish Alley’ with many restaurants
and cafe's to choose
from (very cheap)!
Worth a visit on a
night-time to catch
the atmosphere!
Visit the old town with its narrow streets, plazas and
churches (sometimes religious traditional fiestas), will satisfy
even the most avid culture vulture. Shopaholics won't be
disappointed with the huge array of shops in town either.
There is a busy weekly outdoor street market on a Tuesday and the
biggest flea market on the coast is held on a Saturday, both in the
recinto ferial (fair ground). There is a long beach front and marina to
walk along, with lots of amenities.

GIBRALTAR (1hr by car or coach approx.)
Gibraltar is just over an hours drive away, from the
heights of Gibraltar, at nearly 430 metres there are exceptional views
of North Africa and the Spanish coast. Although the Rock covers only
6.5 km, there are plenty of places to visit. St Michaels Cave, The
famous Rock Apes, and a breathtaking ride to the top by cable car.

GRANADA (2hr by car)
The city of Granada, was the
capital of the last Moslem kingdom in Spain.
Visit the impressive Alhambra Palace with its ancient
aqueducts that take the melting snow from the Sierra Nevada and channel
the waters into the lovely gardens and palaces.

LA CALA
(5 min by car)
This was once a small Spanish fishing village and now
very popular with tourists.
The small village of La Cala has a wide sandy beach which
has been allocated a Blue Flag of Distinction for the third year running.
La Cala has a few shops, boutiques and several intimate
bars and restaurants.
The village is almost on one level making it easier for the elderly and infirm to get around.

MARBELLA
(15 min by car)
Undoubtedly one of the jewels of the Costa del Sol crown is Marbella,
once a mere fishing village, today a Cosmopolitan city and playground
for the International jet set.
If luxury yachts and Hollywood stars are more your beachside scene,
then head for Marbella’s ‘Golden Mile’ the palm fringed, marble
promenade now stretches to Puerto Banus and one of Europe’s most famous
marinas and the place to see and be seen on the Costa del Sol.

"Orange Square" being the centre of the old town’s life with
its many historical
buildings provides visitors with a glimpse of the past but with today’s
luxuries
where you will find numerous places to stop for a drink at one of the
shady cafés and restaurants where you can sit and watch the world go by. |

MIJAS VILLAGE (PUEBLO)
(15 min by car)
Nestling in the mountains just 8km behind Fuengirola, Mijas is one of
the Costa del Sol’s most accessible “white villages”. A pretty
ancient hill village with panoramic views and donkey transport. The
village is a pleasure to wander around and one could easily spend a day
or two just soaking up the atmosphere. At the top you will find the
smallest bullring in Spain which, is in fact, nearly rectangular!
Near the bull ring and museum is the outdoor auditorium where
performances are staged throughout the summer months.
Mijas is a gastronomic delight offering a taste of real Andalucia as
well as a wide choice of International cuisine. Visit the oldest
Spanish owned restaurant in the village called ‘El Capricho’
right in the centre of MIJAS. The food is excellent and the view from
the outside terrace across the square is wonderful. |

NERJA (1hr 10 min by car)
Lovely Spanish town, see the ‘Balcon de Europe’.
Visit the ‘Caves of Nerja’ complete with floodlit stalactites,
stalagmites and other magnificent rock formations.
A
visit to the Nerja "Donkey Sanctuary" is a nice trip out, a great
day for the kids where you can feed the animals.
Also worth a visit is ‘Burriana Beach’ even if it
is just to sample the delights of ‘Paella on
the Beach’
(Fantastic on New Years Eve)!

PUERTO BANUS (20 min by car)
To the west of Marbella lies the exclusive Puerto Banus
for the glitzier side of Mediterranean life with its Yacht Marina, where
you can see the yachts of the rich and famous, (Antonio Bandera's has a
yacht here).
Here also, you can shop in the many exclusive boutiques'
and sample the restaurants (believe it or
not, some are affordable)!
You can
now walk from Puerto Banus to Marbella’s ‘Golden Mile’ on the newly
finished palm fringed, marble promenade.

RONDA
The town is set high in the mountains with “The Puente
Nuevo” a bridge that spans a 400 ft gorge linking the modern part of the
town with the ancient Moorish city.
A breathtaking place to visit, with plenty of places to eat.
